Pickleball is a fast-paced paddle sport blending tennis, badminton, and table tennis, played on a smaller court with a lower net. Invented in 1965 on Bainbridge Island, Washington, by three dads improvising a family game, it gained official rules by the mid-1970s and is now governed globally by groups like USA Pickleball.

Played as singles or doubles on a 20-by-44-foot court, it uses solid paddles and a perforated plastic ball, starting with an underhand serve. A seven-foot non-volley zone called the "kitchen" flanks each side of the net. Paddles are made of wood, composite, or graphite, while the ball's holes create a slower, controlled flight.

Pickleball's rapid growth stems from its accessibility and health benefits. The low-impact game is gentle on joints yet delivers an excellent cardiovascular workout, suiting all ages. Its community-centered nature shines through recreation centers, parks, and clubs offering courts, beginner clinics, leagues, and social events, creating constant opportunities to learn, play, and connect with fellow enthusiasts.
